Higher education’s top 10 ‘influencers’ of 2015

President John Ebersole penned an article for Forbes listing his ‘Top 10 Influencers’ in Higher Education of 2015. Experts like Paul LeBlanc, President of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and Burck Smith, CEO and founder of Straighterline, are noted on the list.

A recent article in the Chronicle of Higher Education (CHE) profiled individuals and organizations that influenced higher education (for better or worse) in 2015. With no intention of denigrating the achievements listed, nor questioning the worthiness of these selections, I do admit to some concerns. The list includes none who have engaged with issues that impact the older, post-traditional student that now constitute the majority of all enrollments; influenced state or national policy; adopted new innovations to reduce cost or improve access; nor, organizations which have modeled the type of behaviors we want to see in our rapidly changing sector.

Therefore, in response, I offer my own equally unscientific line up of influencers. The impact of each of the following extends beyond a single campus or system and encompasses all of American higher education broadly.
