Dr. Michael Johnson, Interim Associate Dean, Technology, and Faculty Program Director, Energy Management, has received two prestigious appointments within the nuclear industry. Dr. Johnson has had a long and distinguished career in the nuclear industry – from his early days in the navy, through to various roles in nuclear power plants. These appointments are an acknowledgement of his leading role in the nuclear sector.
He recently accepted the position as an ABET Program Evaluator (PEV). As an ABET PEV, he will have an opportunity to participate in reviewing and evaluating ABET accredited nuclear engineering technology programs at higher education institutions – he is one of only two Excelsior College employees to achieve this distinguished qualification.
Dr. Johnson has also been appointed to the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Accreditation Policy & Procedures Committee for a three-year term. The purpose of the ANS Accreditation Policy & Procedures Committee is to develop policy, procedures, and criteria for accreditation of nuclear, radiological, and similarly named academic programs in engineering and technology. The Committee provides all interface activities for ANS to ABET.
Commenting upon his recent appointments, Dr. Johnson said, “I have been involved with the nuclear industry for many years now and I see this as an opportunity to give something back, but also to show how Excelsior College is at the forefront of education in this sector. My involvement will benefit our students by allowing us to incorporate some of the best thinking from across the industry and ensure their career-readiness, while also upholding the excellent reputation that Excelsior has in nuclear engineering technology.”
Congratulations Dr. Michael Johnson!
